  • The Pune police are all set to tackle the security and the law and order situation during the palkhi procession in on June 17. Arrangements have been made to avoid congestions and ensure safety during the procession.

A meeting, attended by Police Commissioner Satyapal Singh, Pune Mayor Rajlaxmi Bhosale, Pimpri-Chinchwad Aparna Doke and other senior government officers, was held to finalise the arrangements for the palkhi procession.

Police force, along with two companies of State Reserve Police Force (SRPF), 500 home guards, teams of bomb detection and disposal squad (BDDS) and NCC cadets would be deployed on the procession routes to avoid any untoward incident.

Joint Commissioner of Police Rajendra Sonawane said that only two pandals would be raised, each for the Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad Mayors, to welcome the palkhi procession. “No other pandals would be allowed to be raised on the palkhi route,” Sonawane said.

Sonawane said that some spots have been finalised where the warkaris can rest and stay. Volunteers and social organisations have been asked to distribute food to warkaris at these spots. The civic bodies will be giving the list of these spots.

Those who wish to set up stalls for food and water on the procession route should take necessary permission from the authorities. Care should be taken that the stalls do not create obstacles to the procession. The police have appealed the citizens to avoid parking on the procession route.
