City schoolkids make festive posters, decorate diyas, pledge to shun crackers

The coming of the festival of lights, Diwali, is being celebrated across schools in the tricity with much anticipation.

RIMT World School, Chandigarh

The ongoing month of November is being observed as 'Festival Special' because of festivals like Diwali and Bhai Dooj. Various inter-class competition were organized for the students including diya decoration, thali decoration and rangoli making. Principal Poonam Katoch encouraged the students to use eco-friendly products this Diwali and make it a 'green' day.

Shemrock Senior Secondary School,

Mohali

Shemrock Senior Secondary School at Mohali celebrated Diwali with residents of an old age home here and gifted the senior citizens woollen socks, scarves and monkey caps. The students danced with the residents and young girls also recited a poem on parental love. Chairman J S Bajwa said that expenditures of schools should be decreased to extend a helping hand to less privileged people by providing them daily necesities.

DAV Sr Secondary Public School, Panchkula

The students made posters on the theme 'Shun Crackers, Save Environment' with captions for it. They decorated a Rangoli and placed diyas and candles to showcase the aesthetic sense of participants. At the end of the day, prizes were announced while students of kindergarten joined the festivities and watched a movie depicting the tale of Lord Rama, which was followed by a story telling session. All the students went to Shivalik park for a picnic.

Govt Model Senior Secondary School, Chandigarh

Dev Samaj College of Education organized an 'Anti-Cracker Drive and Save Environment Awareness' among the students of the school and the NSS Volunteers conducted various functions on poster making on the theme 'Say No to Crackers and Save Environment'. The students pledged not to use crackers this Diwali for the conservation of Mother Earth. Other events like Rangoli making and Diya decoration were also organized and Principal S Darshanjit Singh awarded the winners.
