As grades replace marks this year, schools are not sure how to assess students for admission to Class XI
The grading system for Class IX and X comes into effect from this year, but schools are not sure about the admission criterion for Class XI.
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has reportedly given a free hand to schools to decide upon the admission criterion. And schools are considering options like holding an entrance test or giving admissions based on a student’s grades.
“Schools are independent to fix the merit for admission to Class XI,” CBSE Regional Director D R Yadav told Newsline. “Since there will not be percentage from this year, we have been approached by several schools for a solution. And we have suggested a few options.”
Explaining the process of granting admission on the basis of grades, Yadav said, “A child who has A1 in all the five subjects will definitely score over someone who has got an A2 in one subject. For non-medical stream, schools can take into consideration the Science and Mathematics grades.”
The CBSE has also given a green signal to conduct an entrance test. “They hold admission tests for other classes. The same can be done to test the acumen of Class X students,” Yadav said.
In case of government schools, the decision on the admission criterion will be taken by the Chandigarh Administration.
