Mumbai tops metros in CAT 2012 (common admission test) score, 2 get 100

Mumbai has left all other metros behind, with 180 city students scoring 99 percentile and above in common admission test (CAT) 2012, results of which were declared Wednesday.

Delhi secured the second position with 168 top-scorers, followed by Bangalore (157), Hyderabad (105), Kolkata (92) and Chennai (85).

Of the 10 students who got 100 percentile, two are from Mumbai. A total of 1,91,642 candidates took the test that offered a 21-day window from October 11 to November 6, 2012.

Harishwar Subramanium of IIT-B said, "It's great to have scored 100 percentile in CAT. I had studied for just a month for the test."

"CAT 2012 was important as there was increase in registrations for the first time since we moved to a computer-based testing platform. The growth in registrations was across categories and genders. The number of girls registering and appearing for the test increased considerably. More candidates from less privileged sections of society registered and also excelled in the test," said Debashis Chatterjee, director, IIM Kozhikode.

This year, 172 management schools other than IIMs will accept CAT scores for admissions. In 2011, the number stood close to 130.
