The road leading from Hotel Shivalikview to Hotel Taj was made one-way. However, at the Sector 17 light point and near the parking area allotted for the residents who had come to see the Dussehra celebrations at Sector 17 and the other sectors, there was a traffic jam due to the cars leaving the place.
There was a huge rush of traffic in the markets and near the grounds where the Dussehra celebrations were held.
All the parking lots across the city were full. The roads were flooded with cars, causing traffic jams.
"The entry on the dividing road of Sector 23-24 had to be blocked from all sides as the celebrations got over," informed Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Roshan Lal who was deputed to check the security arrangements.
On the other hand, in an endeavor to ensure safety of Chandigarh residents, the police department of Chandigarh had deployed 1100 police officers all around the City Beautiful on the occasion of Dussehra.
All major grounds where the effigies of Ravana, Meghnath and Kumbhkaran were set on fire were checked by the police officials early in the morning on October 24.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Ashish Kapoor, said, "Eight of our DSPs and 41 inspectors had been deputed around the city to keep a security check".
He also said that the PCR vehicles were patrolling in all the markets and busy areas in Chandigarh.
Apart from this, moving nakas were constantly checked for any suspicious object and persons. Markets in Sectors 22, 17 and 15 were the main areas under surveillance. "Regular checking of bags, cars, cycles and anything on which the police had a doubt was carried out," said Kapoor.
