
The 20-year-old man from Gurdaspur, who had tested positive for swine flu last week, was discharged from the Government Multi-Specialty Hospital, Sector 16, on Monday. The patient, a student in California, was on a visit to Chandigarh when he developed flu-like symptoms and was admitted in the GMCH isolation ward on June 22.
“After examining the patient, the team of doctors discharged him. The patient did not develop any signs or symptoms of influenza-like illness after he was given Tamiflu treatment. His second sample sent to the National Institute of Communicable Disease, Delhi, was declared negative,” said Nodal Officer H C Gera, adding this was the first positive case of swine flu in Chandigarh.
Also, the 13 family members of the patient who had been quarantined at his maternal uncle’s Sector-40 house were allowed to go outdoors today after their physical examinations were conducted.
Meanwhile, the 24-year-old Mohali resident, admitted in the Government Medical College and Hospital, Sector 32, on Saturday, was discharged today after his samples tested negative.
