Ahead of the festival season, the municipal agencies want to give the city a clean and fresh look. For this, the North and South municipal corporations have planned to conduct surprise checks in their areas to ensure sanitation works are not ignored.

The two corporations will each check their 104 wards regularly from Tuesday.

North Municipal Corporation Mayor Meera Aggarwal also announced that the Mahila Haat will open for public starting November 1, though its formal inauguration will be held on November 3.

The much-awaited haat has 39 pavilions, for which 60 applications have been received.

"We have received applications from NGOs and craftswomen registered with Ministry of Textiles. A pavilion will be rented for Rs 90 per day, for a maximum of 15 days . After three renewals, there is a waiting period. The haat will be inaugurated by Sushma Swaraj on November 3," Aggarwal said.

North and South corporations will also pick out areas that will be developed as model wards. North civic agency has decided to use draw of lots to pick wards from each zone that will be developed, while South agency is yet to take a decision on which wards will be developed as showcase.

"Except Rohini and Civil Lines zones — which are bigger — we will select two wards to be developed as model wards," the Mayor said.

Chairman of Standing Committee (South) Rajesh Gehlot said within a year, all 104 wards will be developed on the lines of the model wards.

"The sanitation drive can be extended. Ahead of Diwali, the parks will be groomed, grills painted, more plantation will be done and boundary walls of the parks will be checked," he said.

Other than those pertaining to Ramlilas in the city, all hoardings will be removed.
