  • Chorwad, just about 70 kilometre from Junagadh, created history of sorts with its civic body convening a general body meeting in presence of hundreds of people.

The meeting was also attended by 21 elected municipal members who passed resolutions regarding the town’s development.

The town, which has a population of around 30,000 people, is riddled with innumerable civic problems.

The public meeting began on a positive note with the common people also attending it. They put forward their questions, made suggestions and welcomed the civic chief’s move to hold the meeting in public.

“The people of Chorwad used to repeatedly accuse the civic body of being corrupt. The allegations made me upset. I therefore, decided to convene the meeting so that everyone could attend it,” said Chorwad municipality president Hirabhai Chudasama. “We have taken serious note of people’s suggestions. Action will be taken to solve the problems forwarded during the meeting,” he said.

It was also unanimously decided that stern action will be taken against those involved in encroachment cases.

Nearly 700 people took part in the meeting. Resolutions were passed regarding resurfacing of roads, making adequate water supply arrangements, improving education facilities, beautification and so on.

Incidentally, Chudasama (54) has been leading the civic body since his college days.

“To lead the civic body for such a long period is perhaps, a world record. Once official of the world record’s book had approached me in this regard,” he said.
