Civic polls likely to begin on May 30

The state government today recommended that elections to 81 municipal bodies,including Bidhan Nagar (Salt Lake) and Kolkata Municipal Corporation,would be held on May 30,2010.

The State Election Commission is expected to announce its acceptance of the recommendation.

The last date for filing nomination is May 9. New municipal boards would have to be functional by June 9,2010.

While the Left Front is yet to clinch an amicable seat-sharing deal among allies,the Trinamool Congress-Congress alliance has ironed out differences by and large.
