The Punjab and Haryana High Court today directed the Chandigarh Administration to clarify its stand on the dispute over the age criterion adopted by private schools for nursery classes. Justice Mahesh Grover today asked senior standing counsel for the UT Administration Sanjay Kaushal to seek instructions and clarify the stand of Administration in writing.
The directions were passed on a petition challenging the rules adopted by the private schools. The petitioners,17 in all, have sought directions to amend the rules being adopted by the private schools.
As an interim relief, the High Court had last week directed the schools and UT Administration to accept application forms of students above three years of age. The High Court had ordered that the application forms of students above three years of age shall be accepted for consideration.
Contending on behalf of the petitioners, senior advocate Girish Agnihotri had termed the rules adopted by the schools as unconstitutional and demanded that students who are above three years of age shall be considered for admission to the class of LKG,UKG. Senior standing counsel for UT Kaushal today contended that the Administration had initially introduced the rule of three plus but had later withdrew after the parents had protested against the same, resulting in chaos.
