The historic infrastructure of the city institutions continue to draw in filmmakers for shooting many mainstream films and advertisements
Asuperlative contemporary romance blooms amidst those evidently historic, grey-bricked classrooms and the same class also has an assemblage of freedom fighters remonstrating to the British soldiers. The location looks feasible for both the incidents however otherwise the same place has a very attentive crowd attending lessons.
With the historic as well as the contemporary infrastructure of the educational institutions being a readymade set for many scenes, several advertisements, and regional as well as Hindi films have a location any Puneite would promptly identify with.
City based filmmaker and actor Abhyangh Kuvalekar had shot in Fergusson College and Deccan College for The Legend of Bhagat Singh. "They are readymade sets for films that are based especially on the British era. Otherwise the campuses are also chosen for a young and a variety of crowd that is used at the background if the film is based on youth. For instance, I was in the creative visualisation section for Sarivar Sari and we chose BMCC as an old medical college in the film. Any college faculty is extremely supportive with their specified regulations and this makes the task much simpler," adds Kuvalekar.
One of the Airtel ads chose the World Peace Centre at MIT College to depict a scene in the parliament. "The building is around three decade old but it has been designed with massive structural plan in a unique way giving it an historic feel. Most of the shoots happen at our World Peace Centre that has a dome with black stones and the pillars give a colossal feeling. We also make sure that they happen either after classes or on weekends and are not charged. Some of the other criterias being that the subject has a social message. For instance we gave a go ahead only after reading the script for Garv that had parts of it shot here," says Rahul Karad founder and Dean of MIT School of Government.
