Over 400 seats in the SC/ST and OBC categories are lying vacant in the city-based granted schools after the admission process of Class XI concluded on Monday.
Every granted school has 16 reserved seats in the SC/ST category. But this year, due to the lack of takers, over 600 seats were initially vacant in both science and commerce streams, after the admission process was reopened for those students who had not secured admission. Monday was the last day of admission for the SC/ST category in Class XI. We received 187 forms on Monday for both English and Gujarati medium schools. The inflow of students on the last day was very less and we presume that everyone who wanted admission has received it, said an official at the District Education Office.
He added: Every year, many students do not get admission due to competition, and this year we have at least 400 seats vacant. We are expecting similar response in the general category as well.
This year, due to poor results in Class X boards, most students have opted for diploma courses. The poor results has made it difficult for them to get admission in colleges, said Hetal Patel, president of the Baroda city president association.
