Clean rivers on priority: Jathedar to Badal

Akal Takht Jathedar Ginai Gurbachan Singh on Monday appealed to Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal to get rivers and other natural resources of water in the state cleaned on a priority basis. He said this while inaugurating the world's 5th multimedia-enabled museum depicting Sikh history and achievements at Nirmal Kutiya of environmentalist Balbir Singh Seechewal in Sultanpur Lodhi. "Rivers and other water sources like rivulets, nullahs are getting polluted at a fast pace and it was high time to pay attention towards their," said Singh.

Green tribunal cracks whip on hydro project

Shimla: The National Green Tribunal has restrained Himachal Pradesh Power Corporation Limited from feeling trees and utilising forest land at the site of its upcoming 120-MW Kashang hydro power project in Kinnaur. The orders were passed by the tribunal on a petition filed by local environmentalists and NGOs, who had been opposing the project fearing that it would result in an ecological disaster. The tribunal had issued the order on November 23, effectively stalling the project.

Manpreet appoints new media advisor

Chandigarh: Weeks after the "ouster" of his former media advisor, Arunjot Sodhi, People's Party of Punjab president Manpreet Singh Badal on Monday appointed a senior journalist to the post. A press release issued by the party confirmed the appointment of Bakhshinder Singh, who has worked with Punjabi newspapers in senior positions. He has also written for radio and television programmes besides writing scripts for a few documentary and feature films.

Two die in Karnal road mishap

Chandigarh: A one-year-old child, Karan, and his mother Geeta Devi died while his father, Satpal, sustained severe injuries after an unidentified truck rammed into their motorbike and sped away at Jaisinghpura in Karnal district on Monday. Police said that as a result of the collision, Geeta, who was riding pillion, and Karan, who was in her lap, died.
