Garbage accumulation and unhygienic health conditions have become endemic to the lives of villagers and NREGA can serve as a potent medium to mobilise people to be responsible for their own cleanliness and for the health and hygiene of their living conditions. However, one factor is crucial — that we be militarily capable in order to preserve our integrity and sovereignty in perpetuity. When our navy chief and chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee, Admiral Sureesh Mehta, makes a statement implying our inferiority vis-à-vis China, it should serve as a wake-up call.
