Clear victory: 9 MLAs bag second term

  • The assembly elections saw many sitting MLAs getting clear victory margins in the district.

    Of the 12 sitting MLAs in the district, 9 have bagged their second term. Rebel NCP candidate Baburao Pacharne from Shirur, who had contested as an Independent, Congress candidate Balasaheb Shivarkar, who lost out to Sena candidate Mahadev Babar and Sharad Dhamale, who lost out to Sangram Thopte for Bhor assembly constituency, were those who were not so lucky this time.

    Shivarkar, who was a three-time sitting MLA from Pune Cantonment, moved to the newly carved out Hadapsar assembly constituency paving the way for Ramesh Bagwe from Parvati constituency to contest from Pune Cantonment. Meanwhile, NCP rebel candidate Baburao Pacharne, who led in almost all rounds from Shirur, was defeated by 7,000 votes to make way for NCP candidate Ashok Pawar.

    While the others had a clean sweep, Pune Guardian Minister and NCP leader Ajit Pawar was among the top contenders who polled the highest - with 1.28 lakh votes from Baramati - while Ambegaon candidate, state finance minister Dilipwalse Patil polled 99,393 votes against Shiv Sena candidate Kalpana Adhalrao Patil, having polled only 62373 votes.

    Pune Cantonment candidate Ramesh Bagwe who was the sitting MLA from Parvati won against Sena candidate Sadanand Shetty.

    State cooperatives minister Harshvardhan Patil polled 92, 729 against Barne who polled 84, 769 to bag the Indapur seat while Girish Bapat bagged the traditional Kasba Peth constituency.

    Sitting MLA Sharad Dhamale polled only 40,461 against Congress candidate Sangram Thopte who gained 59,182 votes. Sitting MLA from Shivajinagar who was contesting on the Congress candidate Vinayak Nimhan won the seat in a tough fight.
