It’s a portrait of art,a window to what’s happening in the world of art,be it events,activities,new creators,creations,workshops…Chandigarh Lalit Kala Akademi’s website http://www.lalitkalachandigarh.com,which was launched today is not only informative,but aesthetic,elaborate and easily accessible,“and it is the first Akademi in this region to have its own website,’’ smiled Diwan Manna,Chairman of the Chandigarh Lalit Kala Akademi,adding that the website is a collective effort of many-like minded people. As many as 80 artists from the city were invited to share their work,and now 54 are featured here.

Designed to make information available on Internet,for a global viewership about art,its creators,related activities and events from the tricity of Chandigarh,Panchkula and Mohali,the website has absorbing features such as artists’ directory — with art works,profiles and addresses of artists from the city; past and future events of the Akademi,scholarship holders’ works,profiles and names of the sponsors; memorabilia items produced by the Akademi; pictorial representation of the already organized events,exhibitions,collections of the Akademi,workshops,videos of the lectures and events held,online journal,press coverage,downloadable forms for applications,information about other art galleries,museums,and art institutes in the tricity; related links to important museums and art institutes of the world.

A special feature,which will keep changing is the featured artist and the first featured artist on the home page of the site is Nek Chand. “We will have the profile of the artist,a glimpse of his works and his artistic journey. It’s creating history for future generations,for they can clue in to our archives and learn so much,and with the website the Akademi hopes to be able to disseminate art and culture in a better,easy and quicker way,’’ added Diwan. Nodded Neelam Man Singh,who feels the website is the need of the hour,for it makes possible buying of art works,getting clued in about exhibitions,events,new art trends,all with a click of the mouse. Prof BN Goswamy stressed on the urgency and constant upgradation of intelligent websites to keep them alive and the interest of viewers intact. “The quality,content and design is superb and the effort shows,for it has the potential of becoming one of the greatest sites related to art institutes,academies and cultural centers. Creation of websites has given a boost to development of art and artists,in getting art appreciators and buyers and reaching to different parts of the world.’’ Prof Goswamy gave away certificates of appreciation to owners of the design company,Intelligaia.
