'We are working hard with our Indian counterparts to create a very deep and broad strategic engagement,' Clinton told State Dept press corps.

"I am very hopeful that the relationship between the United States and India, which has improved considerably over the last 15 years, continues on the path that we are on," she said.

Identifying India as an emerging global power, Clinton said the recent election has provided political stability.

Clinton said the new government is very committed to pursuing a very activist domestic agenda, particularly around poverty and conditions that people in rural India, as well as its emphasis on development and job creation. It is also looking for ways that India can play a role, regionally and globally, on economic issues and other matters that confront us, she said.

Indian Mass Media's attitudeBy: Raj Chander | 08-Jul-2009 Reply | Forward I completely agree with Dr. Rayatha. Whenever anyone from a foreign country comes to India - whether a politician, celebrity, sports person, we line up to garland them and put tilak on their foreheads. That is why they take us for granted. For example, this richard geare guy had the guts to forcibly kiss Shilpa Shetty on stage because he knew he was literally "worshipped" in India simply because he is from a foreign country. Please stop giving too much importance to anyone visiting India from a foreign land and have some self respect first.
Most comments in poor tasteBy: Rajendra Kumar | 08-Jul-2009 Reply | Forward Going through the comments here I find most of them in poor taste of a mind set which has no basis in today's world. Gone are the days when Americans used to dictate terms and gone are the days when Indians used to get dictated. Grow up guys. In my view present day Indian leadership is far more evoled than most of you are. Rest assured, Indian leaders will deal with Mrs Clintor or for that matter anyone at equal terms and in national interest.
Indian Mass Media's attitude - GLORIFYING SUPER POWER - WHY?By: Dr. Divyesh Raythatha | 08-Jul-2009 Reply | Forward Mrs. Clinton plans to visit India, and our media has started reporting with a big bang. Why is it so? When President Clinton had planned his visit to India, one month in advance our journalists started reporting minutest details of his visit, his likes and dislikes in food, etc and spreading RED CARPET long before his visit. Why is this so? Don't we have any self-respect? According to our Indian culture we do respect and treat nicely our guests, but why such an approbation and an attitude of so much high regards for any western dignitary? Do our Indian leaders get the same treatment when they visit the US or other nations? Are US media taking note of our leaders before, during, and after their visit? Hardly a little space (a single column) might be granted by print media, but I am yet to see any such news telecast on American TV. Please Indian Media, have some self-respect and self-control in the coverage of foreign leaders and don't be so competent andover-enthusiastic.
Hillary Clinton Visiting India....By: Prakash Kanungo | 08-Jul-2009 Reply | Forward Without being offensive or too personal...apology tendered in advance if you do feel hurt...(We Indians are used to being "Hurt" by our own spineless leadership...so you are from USA... and we will not feel hurt )India will be very "Grateful" to her if she could convince herself "FIRST" and then try explain to Indian public if she can differentiate and justify : Good Taliban from Bad Taliban...same way as from Good Monica Levensky from Bad... and believe me this nation of "Spineless leaders" will thank you from bottom of our hearts..Genuinely.....to clar the air about Obama Administrations "Af-Pak" game plans.....
@cliton's visitBy: John | 08-Jul-2009 Reply | Forward She is excited because she might be a fan of Indian food. Otherwise the US has nothing to talk to India as long as they keep supporting Pakis.
