Badal calls Sanjha Morcha pack of power-starved opportunists Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal on Wednesday accused Congress of engineering attacks on members of social activist Anna Hazares team. Badal said the Congress leadership was upset over the defeat of the party in the recently concluded byelections in four states due to which they were resorting to such cheap tactics. He told reporters on the sidelines of the Sangat Darshan programme of the Lambi Assembly segment that such actions depicted the frustration in the Congress due to Anna Hazares fight against corruption and said SAD strongly condemned such actions. Terming defection as another serious threat, besides corruption,to the democratic system of the country,Badal urged Hazare to launch a campaign against defection also. He said the existing law to check defection was not efficient. Taking a dig at Peoples Party of Punjab chief Manpreet Badal, the chief minister said that the former finance minister had fallen prey to the divide and rule policy of Congress. Badal termed the recently formed Sanjha Morcha as a pack of power-starved opportunists. Training his guns against the Congress-led UPA government at the Centre for failing to provide security to the people, the chief minister asserted that there was complete chaos in the country owing to lapses in security of borders. On the one hand frequent bomb explosions were taking place across the country and on the other hand the Chinese intrusion in the territory of the country had posed serious question mark on sovereignty of the country, he said. Commenting on the poor performance of the Congress candidate in the recently held byelection of Hisar,Badal said that the fact that Congress candidate could not even save his security deposit in the bypoll, despite the fact the party was in power both at Haryana and Centre, shows that the people are fed up with the misrule of the Congress. He said Congress had been routed by the people because of its failure to check wide-scale corruption, unemployment and inflation. Meanwhile, the chief minister gave away 201 bicycles to girl students under its flagship programme'Mai Bhago Education Scheme in Lambi,Chanu,Tharajwala and Lal Bai villages. During the Sangat Drashan porgramme of the Lambi Assembly segments,he disbursed a grant of Rs 3 crore for the developmental work in the villages. The chief minister said the SAD-BJP regime had ushered in a new era of development in the state and an unparalleled progress had been witnessed in every field.
