The Shiney Ahuja rape case will now be passed on to a fast track court, Chief Minister Ashok Chavan told a press conference in Mumbai. He has also promised to announce a compensation, in the form of financial and rehabilitation, from the state government to the rape victim.
He said, “As the medical tests prove rape, she is a victim. We have a policy for such victims and will make sure the compensation is given soon.” The chairperson of the National Commission for Women, Girija Vyas, present at the press conference said, “I have spoken to the victim and prima facie the preliminary reports suggest that the crime has been committed. I believe in the judiciary and know that justice will be given. Even if it is a celebrity he can’t escape the law.” She also met Shiney Ahuja’s wife who insisted that her husband is innocent and that the whereabouts of the maid be checked thoroughly.
Mahesh Bhatt, who was also present at the press conference, demanded justice for all.
“It is a time to suspend personal bias and we must hope that justice is done to all the victim and the accused.”
The CM added, “We must not stain the image of the entire film industry because of this one incident.”
