Amidst a raging controversy over illegal mining in his state,Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa has informed the Centre that his government is doing all it can to prevent illegal mining of iron ore, adding that the only certain solution to this problem was a complete ban on the export of iron ore from the country.
Yeddyurappa met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Home Minister P Chidambaram on Saturday,as well as his party leaders. The Chief Minister informed the Centre about the situation in his state and the steps his government was taking to bring back normalcy and also curb illegal mining.
Yeddyurappa, however, rejected the opposition demand for a CBI probe into the issue and the removal of the Reddy brothers Tourism Minister G Janardhan Reddy and Revenue Minister G Karunakaran Reddy.
If we get substantial proof against them,I would have no hesitation in removing them, Yeddyurappa told reporters.
Yeddyurappa said he had requested the Prime Minister to impose a complete ban on the export of iron ore. The Chief Minister claimed that Manmohan Singh had appreciated the steps being taken by his government to curb illegal mining.
