Slow work
The UT guest house’s renovation is going on at a snail’s pace. It is in stark contrast to the work being undertaken at the Raj Bhawan. Both the complexes exist cheek by jowl but there is a stark difference in the attitude of the Administration, which seems to be overly efficient in completing the works at the Raj Bhawan, but is dragging its feet on the guest house. Does efficiency have to do something with the status of the occupants in both these places?

Westwards ho!
We thought Chandigarh was the trendsetter when it comes to urban planning in India. But a group of councillors of the Municipal Corporation are looking for inspiration westwards. They have gone on a ‘study tour’ to Gujarat to examine the sanitation system in the cities there. Their enthusiasm is brimming to such an extent that one of them talked to great extent about his keenness to collect information on Gujarat’s beaches. Do we suspect that after the windmill our beloved Sukhna is in for another weird and inappropriate ‘value addition’? We hope not.

Picture Imperfect
The BJP leaders these days are busy looking at the reasons for the party’s defeat in the city. During the discussions, an incident was narrated that highlighted how the publicity material supplied by the party consisted of a large number of pictures of Congress candidate Pawan Kumar Bansal. While, the pamphlets were distributed as part of the strategy to expose the misdeeds of the Congress, it ended up giving publicity to the party. A BJP worker says that at first glance it appeared to be the campaign material of the Congress.

And Picture Perfect
While the BJP in Chandigarh might be miffed with the poor picture quality, its alliance partner in Punjab, the Akali Dal has gone on to ensure that things are picture perfect for Deputy CM Sukhbir Badal. All the pictures that appear in the media of Badal Jr these days have been clicked by professional photographers. In fact, the state government has now released an ‘official’ photograph of the Deputy CM and have sent it to the media houses for use. Interestingly, Sukhbir’s better half Harsimrat’s photo was recently published in a popular news magazine. The grapewine is abuzz that after that thousands of copies of the magazine were procured and distributed.
