Punjab’s first family is looking for a gastronomical artist. Apart from top hotels, several leading professional hospitality institutes have been asked to provide an “eligible” cook for meeting the tastes of the Chief Minister and his family. The cooks are being personally interviewed by the ‘first lady’. After a formal viva, the Chief Minister’s wife has also prepared a practical test, where the applicant is asked to prepare some dishes. Sources in the Chief Minister’s kitchen reveal that six candidates have flunked the test so far.
Hindutva
At a time when the beleaguered BJP’s high command is thinking that if a return to Hindutva would transform the fortunes of the party, a local leader gave a ‘convincing example’ to prove that the return to its “core ideology” will endear the party to the voter. The leader pointed to a recent concert by Kailash Kher, where the audience asked the upcoming singer to sing an ode to Lord Shiva. The leader felt that the heartening response which Kher got for his song was evidence of the fact that Hindutva continues to move people.

A city resident in an RTI application demanded to know the expenditure the Municipal Corporation incurs on refreshments or entertainment during the monthly meetings of the civic body. Details of the money sanctioned to the officials as well as the Mayor were also demanded. The reply showed that in the last 13 years, the Corporation has spent Rs 77 lakh on refreshments. This includes Rs 46 lakh on the general house meetings, Rs 28 lakh as expenditure on various officials and Rs 2.65 lakh on other meetings.
