Wait and watch
With the Chief Commissioners post likely to be revived in the city, there are many who are apprehensive to express their opinion for or against the move. The nominated councillors of the MC are part of the tribe. Not willing to be seen either in favour of the Administrator or the Chief Commissioner, they are trying to take a middle path. It is a wait to see which way the wind blows.
Delicious surprise
As shown in a report carried by this newspaper, there was nothing surprising in Home Secretarys Surprise Visit to the Old Age Home, last week. The management, was well aware in advance, and did everything to present a favourable image to the visiting officer. One of these was, preparation of an extra vegetable in the meal. For inmates,a paneer serving instead of the routine dal and sabzi was a pleasant surprise.
Different menu
Small sized samosas and besan ki barfi have been staple snacks on the menu at the Punjab civil secretariat, for years now. Everyday visitors to the secretariat know how commonly the two snacks are served. Now,its the bread pakora thats been added to the menu. Its one-fourth the size of a bread slice, and thankfully isnt served with dripping oil. Initial responses suggest that it is becoming increasingly popular.
No requests please
UT Home Secretary Ram Niwas is having a tough time these days, mainly while dealing with lots of sifarishs (references),which come to him for various works, including allotment of houses; jobs; police cases etc. Hassled with all such sifarishs,Niwas got a board pasted on the entry door to his office, which reads Kripya sifarish laga kar sharminda naa karein (Please dont embarrass by bringing references for your work).
Protest or party?
Thousands of BKU protestors, who went on the rampage while protesting in city Tuesday, were openly found drinking liquor outside taverns in the city. They rather availed of the opportunity of coming to city by purchasing cartons of liquor. One of them said,Saade pind vich taan 150 rupeye di desi mildi hai; ithe taan 100 rupeye vich angreji mil rahi hai (In our village,we get country made liquor for Rs 150,here we are getting Indian Made Foreign Liquor for Rs 100).
Miscalculation
Rumours are that Kuldeep Bishnoi, president of the Haryana Janhit Congress faked swine flu. Now it would be inappropriate to find something fishy in professed ailment, but Bishnois political calculations surely have gone horribly wrong. His idea of forming a grand alliance of Janhit Congress,BSP and the BJP in the forthcoming state assembly elections has been a grand failure. After BSP severed its ties, the BJP also decided to go solo in the elections. Bishnoi, who fancied himself as the chief ministerial candidate of a HJC-BJP,seems to be going nowhere.
