Cold,hazy Christmas day for Delhiites

"Saturday's maximum was lowest of the season so far," said a Met department official.

It was a cold and misty Christmas day on Saturday for the people of Delhi as day temperature plunged four notches below normal — the lowest of the season though the minimum moved up since the last few days.

The maximum temparature dipped to 19 degree Celsius from Friday’s 24 degrees while the minimum which had dropped down below 7.0 degrees Celsius over the past three days,climbed up to 8.2 degrees Celsius.

“Saturday’s maximum was lowest of the season so far,” said a Met department official.

Dense fog enveloped the city in the early hours and the visibility at the IGI airport dropped to 300 meters at 6.30 am. The day in most part of the city was more or less hazy.

On Wednesday,the minimum had dropped to the season’s coldest of 5.2 degrees,and the subsequent days saw the lowest mercury marker point to 6.7 and 6.4 degrees respectively.

The Met office said the city may experience showers on Wednesday and Thursday.

It said the minimum temperature is expected to be around 7 degrees Celsius while the maximum is likely to be around 21.0 degrees tomorrow

According to statistics provided by the weather office,the average minimum temperature in Delhi for the month of December is 8.2 deg C and the maximum is 23 deg C.

The lowest-ever minimum temperature for this month has been 1.1 degree C recorded on December 26,1945,while the highest maximum was 29.3 degree C recorded on December 3,1987.
