  • Hundreds of Indian students studying in Australia have been left in the lurch, with the sudden collapse of the Global Campus Management Group closing down four colleges in Sydney and Melbourne on Thursday.

The collapse has particularly come as a major blow for the Australian Government, which has been working hard to rebuild the industry's battered image. The Department of Immigration had placed hundreds of Sydney-based students in the school after their previous school, Global College, went broke last year, the Sydney Morning Herald reports.

The future looks uncertain for 500 Sydney students enrolled in English language, design and commercial cookery, most of whom are hoping to secure permanent residency after completing their courses.

“I made the biggest mistake coming to study in Australia. The quality of education here is sh*t. We have nothing but the media to rely on now,” Karun Sachdeva, 24, said adding that he did not know whether he would be refunded the $2500 he had paid for the next semester.

On Thursday afternoon, teachers at the Meridian International Hotel School were called to a meeting and within minutes were told they had lost their jobs.

“They said they do not have enough funds to pay us and we would have to leave straight away,” Terrence D'Souza, who taught commercial cookery there, said.

Ten private colleges catering to international students have been closed down this year in Australia.

The Victorian Registration and Qualifications Authority said the immediate priority was to ensure students doing VCE exams experienced no disruption.

Students left in lurch in AustraliaBy: Juan Carlos d. Autopista | 08-Nov-2009 Reply | Forward The mental midget(RF/Yadu Singh)with IQ of my front gate will vehemently protest but Australia never really had a reputation of really first class education destination. Brumby confirmed an audit of colleges had been completed."The company concerned was audited some time ago and passed all the tests in terms of the audit," he said. But the Education Union's Mary Bluett says the auditing process is useless. But Now that some colleges will have to close down leaving many students in the lurch , the state Govt must intervene and find a way so that at the foreign students, who have been neglected so long, complete their studies. They have paid their fees (which is more than what the locals pay) in advance and they have put to disadvantage (travel concessions.etc.) , so responsibility now rests with the Govts. of NSW and Victoria. The states too have profited from expenses these students made in their states. Andrew Smith said "It is an industry (education) that creates over 120000 jobs..
WirchdoctorBy: Rodgers Father | 09-Nov-2009 Reply | Forward You are talking in specfic to the case whereas I am talking about broadbrush that the audit has not been completed. I stand by what I am saying. If Australia has not been first class education destination than why are Indians comming in droves? Is only for PR?
Contradictions in your postingsBy: Roger | 09-Nov-2009 Reply | Forward RF, I understand from your earlier postings and where you have rigourously insisted that Indian students came to Australia for the " lure" of PR and nothing else. Are you now contradicting yourself with your broken and dablling english? sounds incredible the way you change your fluid stand in ways and forms which suite your convenience.
Australia's ponzi schemeBy: Roger | 09-Nov-2009 Reply | Forward Australia has been soliciting overseas students just on the temptation of a PR. If you read through the reports produced by Monash Uni professor whose name i cant recollect, the primary reason is P.R.It is an existing evidence. 10 years before, when the temptation of PR did not exist, hardly anyone came to australia. Australia has been involved in the largest ponzi scam of getting overseas students on false and misleading promise of a PR which now to their convenience, they have changed the goal post.
Useless Son - Useless as EverBy: Rodgers Father | 09-Nov-2009 Reply | Forward I note that because of your poor English you have failed to understand that my position. My position remains the same. Australia has great education system. This was reflected in the number of top Unis Australia has and India does not. You have finally accepted my proposition that the Indians only come foor PR? Son you do not have to feel shame about changing you position. Main thing is that you sit on your brain and at last you have come to realisation that you were wrong. How is your rust bucket going? Did you pick many passengers today? Are you preparing for your basic maths and English for taxi drivers?
Witchdoctor Paras and Useless SonBy: Rodgers Father | 09-Nov-2009 Reply | Forward There is no contradiction. Problem is lack of your English so you you interpret what it suits you. The only person who has shifted the goal post is my useless son with 3P's problem. Finally you admit that the PR is the reason for students comming to Australia. Does this including illegally with fake documents like you have? Have been to the psychatrists to treat your 3P'S problem and booked for your gastro problem?
The same can not be said of the aussies.By: Devji kumar | 08-Nov-2009 Reply | Forward To say the least, not most indians living and working in india and the rest of world have decended from convicts who were sent there to clear the passage of occupution of aboriginal land, natural resources and cultute. The same can not be said of the aussies. However indians at home should learn to look after the NRIs living and working india and rest of world. No worries, The big question is what is the authority at home in india doing to secure the future of education of the their own NRIs stranded, out of pocket and effected in a country down under, well known outbacks of raw arrogance, ego and non-pink discrimination ? Does the ruling/elite class at home in india give a damn about their own abroad or are they more concerned about securing personal wealth, position and status in society ? Jai ho, Jai ho silence ssh-swiss bank accounts.
Lost cause and a mooing fatherBy: Roger | 08-Nov-2009 Reply | Forward Still Mooing and Oinking RF! anyways, the correct spelling is " Interest" and not "intrest". I wonder how did you manage to pass the IELTS? Most likely you faked it. College has collapsed because of the apathy of the federal and the state govenment despite an audit which reflects on the incompetence of the australians which is dependent on people like you with fake qualifications. Over 10,000 overseas students would be affected as result of 4 or 5 colleges going belly up, because of the reliance on people like you with fraudulent qualifications. Indians get jibed and taunted on the streets because of people like you who have no self respect for the nation they originate from and also because people like you still manage to have a cow yard emitting odour and stench which is unbearable. so shame on you for being a hypocrite. People like you have have created a foul stench in your neighborhood which is bad and results in taunts and jibes.
Useless Son - Useless as EverBy: Rodgers Father | 08-Nov-2009 Reply | Forward Sorry if you are an Australian in Australia IELTS is not needed. Stop sitting on your brain it will get damaged, and get it that the audits have not been completed. I know I am actively involved with these poor students. Some like you have come with fake qualifications. They drive 1930%u2019s rust bucket like you. Question is the fume coming out of this rust bucket or from your brain is greater. The problem is that you not get it that this is comments section. At the end spelling and grammar does not matter. It%u2019s the ideas stupid and in yours and your sidekicks case there is none. Do not give too much stress to your brain as it might explode. Concentrate in driving taxi. Are you paying taxes by the way? Have you started your basic written and spoken English classes? You should know under the new federal legislation without basic maths and English one will not be able to get taxi licence. This will definitely put in bind. If you are having problem with your guts and foul smell emitting from your mouth please do go to specialists. Are you still seeing psychiatrists about your 3P%u2019s ( perv, pedo and psycho) problem?
Its bad odour alreadyBy: Roger | 08-Nov-2009 Reply | Forward Well RF, you are the one struggling with elementry math and english; that is indeed shameful. yes, you are a fake aussie, who most likely arrived into this country called australia via a boat, dint have to take IELTS and that reflects now in abyssmally low levels of communication skills with very limited vocabulary which i'm sure you refer to the dictionary or may be its your kids who are helping you out. on one hand you are being deregatory towards taxi drivers by stereotyping them for not paying taxes while australian businessmen such as Kerry Packer escaped jail time just for the same. I think you are a disgrace to who you were and to who you are now, because in simple terms you are a hypocrite who along with his little sidebrats gets taunted and jibed walking around because of the filth you all emit.
Usless sonBy: Rodgers Father | 09-Nov-2009 Reply | Forward You have great illusion
Illusions !By: Roger | 09-Nov-2009 Reply | Forward Yes indeed an illusion which you are unable to come to terms with.
Useless Son - Useless as EverBy: Rodgers Father | 09-Nov-2009 Reply | Forward Yes no one can come interms of your illusion. Because its in your mind its you need to locked with straight jacket.
Foreign EducationBy: KEWAL KHANNA | 07-Nov-2009 Reply | Forward STRONG REGULATOR NEEDED Lot of frauds are being detected pertaining to admission of Indian students in foreign institutions. Very recently the happenings in Australia where the touts have been luring Indian students for admission in Australia has landed hundreds of them in trouble. The closure of dozen of such colleges and institutions in Australia has put a question ark on the life of these innocent students. They even after spending thousands of dollors are running from pillar to post. In this drama and going on rackets, the touts and middlemen heading faked agencies are getting fat. It is the high time the Government of India steps in and a strong regulator is appointged making it mandatory that all students going abroad should channel their applications through this regulating agency. There is no end to frauds and growing discontentment is adversely affecting the thousand of young students.
Foreign education a must?By: Padam Singh | 07-Nov-2009 Reply | Forward What the poor students who sell everything to study abroad beggars belief. But this is the result of illiteracy. Forge Australia, there are hundreds of sleazy institutes in London alone that offer supposedly world class qualifications and one finds Indians, Pakistanis, Bangladeshis, Brazilians etc paying through their nose to eucate themselves at these places. Bhagat Singh and Dyal Singh colleges, looked dwn by the well heeled in Delhi offers a much better standard. The Indian governmnt should encourage colleges in metro cities to open branches in rural areas and put a halt to poor Indians from going abroad to no good universities. The touts, both foreign and Indian should be hauled up and made to pay back students who have lost their all by investing for a future in these institutes in Australia that have gone into administration. Will the Australians refund these suckers from India?
