Collector appoints new agency for Aadhaar drive

With the district administration aiming to give an extra push to take forward the Aadhaar drive, the state government has given the district collector powers to appoint new agencies.

The collector, using his new powers, has already appointed an agency in place of the one blacklisted by the government.

"Under powers given to the collector, I have selected the agency and we will encourage more such agencies that have the technical knowhow and trained manpower to improve the drive,'' said Pune District Collector Vikas Deshmukh. He said the newly appointed agency, Obel Agency, has agreed to provide 100 machines as well as trained manpower.

He reiterated that government subsidy for various schemes will continue to be given even if the Aadhaar number has not been generated. "There will be no stoppage of subsidy for beneficiaries just because the Aadhaar card had not been readied,'' he said.

He also said that people would have to fill the Know Your Customer (KYC) form even if the Aadhaar number has not been generated.

"There should not be any doubt about KYC forms and merely not having the Aadhaar number should not stop people from filling up the KYC form. Those who get the number can add it later,'' he said.

The emphasis on this is being made with the government transferring subsidy directly into bank accounts of beneficiaries.

The government has directed SETU Kendras to help beneficiaries with Aadhaar number for those whose numbers have been generated. The district collector has asked the kendras to help beneficiaries. "They should be shown the number free of cost. Those who want a printout would be charged a fee of Rs 2," he said.

The district has generated UID cards for 31 lakh people. As of now, PCMC areas have 85 machines, PMC area has 67 machines and rural areas have 43 machines for the drive.
