  • A 19-year-old girl committed suicide by jumping from her 11th-floor apartment in DLF City on Friday. The teenager took the step after she allegedly failed to make it to a college of her choice in Delhi University. The incidence was reported around 7.30 pm.

Kritika scored 92 per cent in her Class XII Board exams this year, the police said. She wanted to get admission in LSR and when she failed to do so, she became depressed, an officer said. “Her parents told us that while most of her friends got admission in LSR, she got admission at Jesus and Mary College. This depression might have led her to take the extreme step,” Jagdish Prasad, Sector-29 SHO, said.

Prasad said her family has told the police Kritika was depressed for the past few months. The officer said she was standing in the balcony of her house with her mother and brother and, suddenly, she jumped. “It took a while for her family members to realise what had happened,” Prasad said. The police were informed around 8 pm; they didn’t find any suicide note. A postmortem was conducted and the girl’s body was handed over to her family. A case has been registered in the matter.
