The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered a case against a law college in Rohtak that bribed Bar Council of India (BCI) officials to get a report in its favour. It is mandatory for law colleges to get clearance from the BCI for starting a law course and many institutes such as the one in Rohtak bribe council officials to get a positive report. The agency, which is cracking down on such illegal colleges,is scrutinising documents seized from the office of Vaish Law College in Rohtak. The college, which was started in January 2010,was inaugurated by then Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan. Agency officials said they have found evidence that points to an alleged nexus between BCI officials and law college authorities. The BCI without conducting mandatory verification gave them a nod and certificate after which the law college began its operation, said a CBI official. It has been found that the law college which also runs other diploma, bachelor and masters courses, invited application from candidates on the basis of the clearance certificate from the BCI, the officials said.
