Highlighting the failure of many engineering colleges in adhering to the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) norm of make disclosures such as sanctioned strength and placement records on their official websites, advocacy group Sajag Nagarik Manch has appealed the State Directorate of Technical Education (DTE) to prevail upon these institutions to ensure compliance. The details, the manch said, would help students in making a choice.

“The admission process for engineering/ technical courses has begun, and candidates are confused choosing a college amongst hundreds. AICTE has directed all colleges to make mandatory disclosures like sanctioned strength,department-wise intake, placement and alumni details on their website. Several colleges have not followed these norms,” Manch president Vivek Velankar told Newsline on Friday.

He said the responsibility lies with the DTE to prevail upon engineering/ technical colleges under its purview to ensure compliance of AICTE norms on mandatory disclosures. Sajag Nagarik Manch also submitted a memorandum to Maharashtra Minister for Higher and Technical Education Rajesh Tope on Friday.

When contacted,DTE authorities said colleges would be asked to comply with AICTE norms at the earliest.
