  • Through matter & paints Bhuvneshwar & Mahesh rediscover self

The process is the destination and the destination is the means. Say that to the artists and they will smile back in understanding. The ever-in-motion mind is what defines art and also life. The same theme becomes the essence of the paintings of Bhuvneshwar Singh, whose more than 15 works capture a journey of a being to the discovery and rediscovery of self. The seed is the symbol and the bright colours of positivity surround it to ensure a productive process, physical or metaphysical. The roots go deep and in varied directions with each frame symbolizing the various stages of germination, from a tiny seed to a flower blossoming in the cosmos. Amidst this there are stages of uncertainty, depicted by human figures shadowed in white doubt. As no interest can remain unaffected by his circumstances, Bhuvneshwar also makes a comment on the issue through various posters. Also on display are sculptures by Mahesh Prajapati. His rendition of the Rajasthan forts comes alive through a sense of inhabitance. That he does by adding touches of slight imperfections to the otherwise geometrical structures. Constructed out of various waste materials, the architectural replicas are accompanied by Mahesh’s study of human faces. At times one sees only a face, other times it’s the forts personified with the face of history peeping through. There are also shapes out of marble that have tiny metal human figures sitting, meditating, and wondering. On at Government Art Gallery, Sector 10, till Jan 25.
