After keeping a low profile for quite some time,2009 had been a comeback year of sorts for designer Suneet Varma, with his re-entry in to the fashion week fold and a whopper tie-up with luxury label Judith Leiber, for whom he designed a series of clutches. Now Varma has been chosen as the grand finale designer of the Lakme Fashion Week,to be held in Mumbai between March 5 and 9. “As I have been in the industry for 22 years,I have,at some point or the other, been involved with all fashion weeks. I would probably be a choice of many fashion weeks in India, only my own work schedule and time constraint allows me to participate in a few. I think it is important and good to work as an industry and not necessarily think about individual fashion weeks,” says Varma, steering clear of the debate over why he opted for the week in Mumbai over the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week in Delhi . Varma is equally loath to call this his second coming. “Second, third and fourth comings are only worries of people who don’t have a long innings. I prefer to do projects and involve myself a hundred per cent in whatever I do and thankfully because of that reputation I only get projects which are very serious in nature and involve a great amount of responsibility,” he says. Get ready to be dazzled by some high-glam clothes on the ramp that takes off on the theme of Night Fever.
