CM promises all facilities to the car major if plant is set up in state, says it will aid export

After the Tatas, Chief Minister Narendra Modi now wants Japanese car manufacturer Suzuki and its Indian associate Maruti Udyog Limited to set up a manufacturing unit in Gujarat. He has said manufacturing cars in Gujarat and then exporting them to Western countries through Mundra Port in Kutch would be a cheaper alternative to manufacturing them in Haryana.

“With the Tatas setting up their Nano car project at Sanand in Gujarat, it is now the turn of Maruti to do so. The state government is ready to provide all facilities,” Modi said after inaugurating the All Gujarat Institute of Driving and Technical Training and Research, a joint venture of the Gujarat government and Maruti Suzuki India Limited in Gajadara village of Waghodia taluka in Vadodara district.

Department of Tribal Development under Vanbandhu Kalyan Yojana has allocated Rs 16.35 crore for the construction of the institute on 25 acres of land. It will train about 2,250 people every year.

“Gujarat has become the first state of the country to have such an ultra modern technical institute for tribal youth that aims to provide skilled manpower not only to the state but also to the world,” added Modi, in presence of Shinzo Nakanishi, the managing director of Maruti Suzuki India Limited.

The Chief Minister further said that since the Mumbai-Delhi Industrial Corridor has been constructed with active participation of Japanese companies, Maruti Suzuki should also establish their car plant with a large investment in Gujarat.
