Refusing to join issue with the Prime Minister,Congresss allies on Wednesday said his comments that compromises had to be made in a coalition sometimes was neither unusual nor would it affect the ruling alliance.
NCP general secretary Tariq Anwar said,It is true that there are some compulsions because alliance partners select their nominees (in the Union Cabinet). The PM cannot choose his own team. But the PM has already assured that he would take corrective measures (about irregularities). We agree with him completely.
The DMK too maintained that the comments would have no bearing on the ties. I dont think so. He has not said anything wrong about coalition, DMK spokesperson T K S Elangovan said in Chennai.
The Trinamool Congress said it was not only with the government but never placed any demands on the UPA leadership. Trinamool leader and MoS for Tourism Sultan Ahmed said the PMs comments were probably intended for just one of the UPA allies, and not aimed at his party.
