Accused had stated in advertisements that Bharat Solanki doesnt want minority votes What's in a name? Well, for Bharatsinh Madhavsinh Solanki,a senior Congress leader and the partys candidate from Anand constituency,it matters a lot. His name was used by an Independent candidate (Bharat Babubhai Solanki),for misleading the people. But the alertness of the district election officer of Anand prevented the advertisements from appearing in the local newspapers. The advertisement in the name of Bharat Solanki had asked the minorities not to vote for Solanki as he doesnt want their vote. To this,Bharatsinh Madhavsinh Solanki had also published advertisements in the local newspapers clarifying that he was not the person in question. I had issued advertisements in the newspapers asking the voters to make them aware that the other Solanki was a dummy candidate. The Congress said it was the handiwork of the BJP as they divide people under the name of religion. Bharatsinh Madhavsinh Solanki said: He was the dummy candidate for the BJP. This is how the BJP wants to fight the elections. Only they can divide people on the basis of caste and religion. A complaint was registered at the Anand town police station under different sections. These include, asking people to vote or not to vote on the basis of religion, and misleading the voters. Deputy District Collector (elections),Vijay Patel, said: We have registered a complaint with the Anand police station (FIR- II /3205/09). An official said: The advertisement quoted Bharat Solanki as saying,I dont want minority votes. They should not vote for me. As per the Election Commissions ruling, nobody can issue an advertisement asking people to cast their votes on the basis of caste or religion.
