The complaint filed by Neetu Singh,a student of the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII),with the Deccan Gymkhana police station on March 29,2009,against two men who pretended to be CBI sleuths Srinivas Rao and Dhirendra Singh has been traced. A copy of this complaint is with The Indian Express.
The two had allegedly visited the FTII campus to make inquiries about Neetu. She was picked up from the campus on December 5 by the police.
Sub-inspector Anjali Khare, who had received this complaint from Neetu, was on sick leave.
“Sub-inspector Khare, then attached to the Prabhat police chowky, received our complaint. Neetu had mentioned the cell phone numbers of Srinivas Rao and Dhirendra Singh in her complaint. The sub-inspector called up Srinivas on the number and asked him a few questions in front of us,” said Malvika Jha,joint secretary of AIDWA. She had accompanied Neetu to the chowky and later to the Deccan police station.
When this reporter contacted one of the numbers mentioned in the complaint,a man identifying himself as Srinivas answered the phone. He,however, said he did not know the complainant.
“After her deportation,Neetu called us from Nepal and said she could recognise one of the two lady officers who came to the FTII campus in civil dress on December 5 and took her away under the pretext of identifying Srinivas,” she said.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Savita Turekar said Khare was on leave and undergoing treatment in a hospital.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (zone I) Dnyaneshwar Phadtare said being a non-cognizable offence the police took necessary preventive action on the complaint lodged by Neetu. “We could not get more details as sub-inspector Khare is not well,” he said.
Neetu’s complaint of March 29 says,”Mr Rao visited my institute several times in October 2008 and again in February 2009. He met the security officers at the institute and apparently even went to the tutorial section to make inquiries about my character. He,however, did not try to meet me personally.”
“Prior to this,Mr Dhirendra Singh, also claiming to be a CBI officer, came to my institute in 2008. He met me personally saying it was routine check on foreign students. However,he asked me some strange questions implying that I was involved in some anti-national activities.”
