Conclave for CAs begins

The Chandigarh branch of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) on Friday kick started a two-day CA conclave. The event was attended by over 400 CAs from the states of Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh. The conference was aimed at assessing the introduction of new forms of direct and indirect taxes, their revenue and equity implications and the successes achieved in their implementation.

CA Sanjeev Sharma, Chairman, ICAI, Chandigarh Chapter, said, "The CAs profession is re-defining itself. The taxation laws, both in direct taxes and indirect taxes, are undergoing a drastic change. A CA should be acquainted with these ever-changing laws. All these new concepts in taxation laws are being deliberated upon in this two-day conclave. The aim of this conference is to provide an environment to discuss and debate some of the key issues with peers, professionals and specialists and share ideas and experience."

CA Ajay Wadhwa, while addressing the delegates on 'important issues in income tax' explained the technicalities involved in the taxation machinery in India relating to recovery and stay of demand under the Income Tax Act. He enlightened the CA fraternity about the vital provisions under the act helping their profession.
