The state Congress on Wednesday demanded a CBI inquiry into the CPM leaders murder in Mangalkot in June following allegations that the killers were sheltered by the local Congress leaders.
Congress Legislative Party (CLP) leader Manas Bhuniya, who along with eight other Congress MLAs,was assaulted by villagers on July 15 while trying to enter Dhanyarukhi village in Burdwan district, dared the chief minister to order a CBI probe. If the chief minister can hold a CBI inquiry into the murder, the facts will come out.
CPM Burdwan district committee secretary Amal Haldar said party leader Falguni Mukherjee was killed by miscreants engaged by the Congress. One of the accused accompanied Bhuniya while they visited the village. So they had to face public fury, Haldar said.
Bhuniya said the murder was an outcome of an internal rivalry between two groups of CPM and the Congress has no connection with the case. By blaming the Congress, the ruling party is trying to wash its hands of and planning to harass local Congress workers, he said. A group of CPM cadres, followers of Commerce and Industries Minister Nirupam Sen,has played a vital role behind the murder, said Bhuniya. Sen is an MLA from Burdwan district.
Meanwhile,CPM Burdwan district committee on Tuesday came out with a video footage of the June 15 incident where one Najem Seikh was seen in the mob.
This Najem Seikh is one of the accused in the Falguni murder case and he went to the village with the Congress team, said the district committee.
