Congress corporator presents bangles to Mayor,Sena counterparts thrash her

Three women corporators from rival parties in the BMC exchanged blows.

Three women corporators from rival parties in the BMC Tuesday exchanged blows after one of them opposed the mayor’s decision to convert part of Mahalaxmi racecourse into a theme park.

Minutes after Mayor Sunil Prabhu gave the nod to the park proposal Congress corporator Sheetal Mhatre walked up to him and placed her bangles on his table.

This irked Shiv Sena corporators Yamini Hadhav and Kishori Pednekar who got into an argument with Mhatre and attacked her.

Other corporators intervened to bring the situation to normal.

Mhatre said,“Yamini came drunk to the house and attacked me. This is how the Sena reacts to every issue.”

The Sena corporators denied they attacked Mhatre.

Prabhu denied the allegations and blamed Mhatre for bad behaviour. He said,“I tried to calm the corporators down and proceed with other issues. But the woman corporator came up to me,touched me and gave me bangles to wear. Disciplinary action will be taken against her.”

Opposition leader Dnyanraj Nikam of the Congress supported Mhatre. The party plans to file a police complaint against the Sena corporators.

Corporator Waqarunnisa Ansari said,“Whatever happened with Mhatre is unethical. Sena is known for such behaviour. Ten years ago when I raised some issue,Sena corporators manhandled me.”
