Training her guns against Congress over Telecom Minister Kapil Sibal’s criticism of CAG on 2G spectrum scam,AIADMK chief J Jayalalithaa today accused it of “preparing to destabilise” every constitutional authority for the sake of its ally DMK.
In her first hard-hitting attack against Congress in recent months, she said the probe into the scam was on track but “everything changed” after the meeting between Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Chief Minister M Karunanidhi on January 3,with both saying their alliance was ‘strong’.
“Barely three days after (the meeting in Chennai),Sibal rubbished the CAG report on the issue of its estimate of presumptive loss as erroneous,” Jayalalithaa said, adding the CBI investigation had also “lost steam”.
In a statement, she said,”Kapil Sibal choosing to debunk the Comptroller and Auditor General report at a press meet rather than before the Supreme Court or Public Accounts Committee clearly shows Congress, for the sake of its ally DMK,is prepared to destabilise every Constitutional authority in the country.”
Pressing for A Raja’s removal as telecom minister,Jayalalithaa had offered her party’s as well as of some others to the Congress-led UPA to survive in office in the event of DMK opting to exit the alliance over the 2G scam.
Her overture had sparked speculation of a possible political realignment but Congress was quick to scotch by turning down her offer.
She said Congress had “stonewalled” Opposition demand for a Joint Parliamentary Committee probe into the issue.
“The CAG’s protestations that its calculations estimating the loss to the nation were based on fool-proof and time-tested norms, have gone unnoticed and this constitutional authority has virtually been undermined… It is becoming increasingly apparent that the spectrum probe is moving the Bofors way with the guilty going scot-free,” she charged.
The UPA government stands totally discredited with the Adarsh housing scam and the Commonwealth Games scam keeping the spectrum scam close company, she said.
Asking the people of the state to be “vigilant” against the DMK-Congress combine, she urged them to “teach them a lesson” in the hustings due in May.
