  • Drawing faultlines in the Andhra Congress after the party high command sent clear signals it was reluctant to anoint him as the late YSR’s successor despite the clamour in the state unit, son Jaganmohan Reddy on Thursday told those with a line open to Delhi that the party “cannot ignore” the “wishes of the people”.

Sources said KVP Ramachandra Rao, YSR’s close friend who has been asked by the Congress leadership to put an end to the make-Jagan-CM campaign, was told by Jaganmohan to “consider the wishes of the people... you cannot ignore or stop them”.

It was KVP who first started the campaign to demand that Jaganmohan be made the next CM. But the Congress high command asked him to tone it down and let it decide.

“KVP hasn’t uttered a word to his aides and friends about what transpired at the meeting with Sonia Gandhi. Though he briefed her on the political situation in the state and the need to make Jaganmohan CM, he did not get a response. He is under pressure from both sides, stuck between the two,” the sources said.

A member of the Andhra PCC, who accompanied KVP to New Delhi, said: “Jaganmohan is like a son to him. KVP cannot bring himself to be tough with him at a time when he and his family are still grieving.”

But pressure is being mounted through various quarters. The core group of ministers and MLAs don’t want to be seen as the only people rooting for Jaganmohan since it could land them in trouble with the high command. So they have worked out other strategies. After meeting Jaganmohan yesterday, NSUI representatives held a programme at Gandhi Bhavan today where they paraded people who had been helped by YSR.

POLITICAL THREATBy: Niranjan | 15-Sep-2009 Reply | Forward JAGAN, IT APPEARS, HAS ISSUED A THREAT TO CONGRESS THAT IF YOU DON'T MAKE ME THE CM, I WILL MAKE SURE THAT ANDHRA BURNS! SUCH POLITICAL BLACKMIAL SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED TO WORK. IF SUCH A THING HAPPENS, IMPOSE PRESIDENT'S RULE OR EVEN EMERGENCY IN THE STATE. A SIMILAR THREAT WAS ISSUED BY M. CHENNA REDDY FOR TELANGANA IN 1969. ANYONE OLD ENOUGH TO REMEMBER, KNOWS WHAT HAPPENED. MANY STUDENTS DIED IN THE AGITATION. STUDENTS LOST ONE PRECIOUS YEAR OF STUDIES. AND ULTIMATELY, TELANGAN PRAJA SAMITI MERGED WITH CONGRESS. LET'S HOPE AP DOES NOT HAVE TO SEE THOSE DAYS AGAIN.
Ap CMBy: Reddy kamma | 14-Sep-2009 Reply | Forward Why Jagan? Why not someone else from the party MLAs. People voted for YSR not for Jagan. ELse let the assembly be dissolved and let us see if Jagan will bring the party to power again.Jalayagnam= thousands of crores to contractors and no work.
A big NO to 1980's high command politics of nominating CMsBy: Narendra | 14-Sep-2009 Reply | Forward The AICC should understand that its 1980's policies yielded 15 years without power in Andhra. The party needed 1500 pada yatra by YSR to resurrect itself. I urge the AICC to not resort to nominating CMs gimmick, the people of AP are not fools to accept a nominee of bunch of back room politicians. I feel ashamed when our congress leaders from AP have to beg people like Verappa Moily, Pranab and Ahmad Patel for the CM post. I hope Jagan to not budge under the pressure and even go the extent of splitting the party to start a new regional outfit. The high command has to understand that, people of AP voted for YSR in 2009 but not to High Command.
YSR Amar rahainBy: Raza W. | 13-Sep-2009 Reply | Forward YSR Amar hain, in Indian history YSR is a great CM, no one can beet him exept his son JMR (Jagmohan Reddy)we want Jagan becomes CM
APBy: George | 12-Sep-2009 Reply | Forward People are closely watching the indifferent and cold blooded nature and activity of New Delhi. This is not 1980s.People know very well about the situation in AP.I strongly believe AICC is digging the grave for its AP Chapter. How can they simply say that there would be an emotional surge after death of great leader?Don't people know that?Do we have to know from leaders in New Delhi about this?Already TN and Karnataka are gone.Kerala is Ok.How about AP?I think New Dlehi is not digesting the popularity of the Family which is loyalist of Sonia Gandhi Family and Congress Party.AP people are expressing the disbelief and dissatisfaction over the developments in AP and coming to an opinion that New Delhi is New Delhi. That's why Tamil Nadu people made a very good move few decades ago.Tou are sending the very very wrong signals to other Congress ruling states.
