A la Pramod Mahajan family saga unfolded in the city today after a Congress leader and secretary Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee, Sanjeev Bhargav was shot at by a relative of his wife. The shooting, as per the area police, took place over a property dispute. The incident took place at Bhai Randhir Singh Nagar late afternoon today .

It is learnt that Bhargav has been shot in his thigh and at the time of filing of this report was being operated upon at the local Medicity Hospital. The family and relatives of the injured are tightlipped about the exact reason behind the shooting and the condition of Bhargav at present.

SHO, Sarabha Nagar, Beant Juneja meanwhile said, “The police is verifying the incident and till time no statement has been recorded and no arrest has been made.”

It has, meanwhile, been learnt that, the reason behind this incident is the property left behind by a relative of Bhargav’s wife who died recently. Bhagragav’s wife Archana was adopted in his mausi (maternal aunt, mother’s sister) Urmil Sharma, who was childless. After the death of her aunt, the entire property owned by the deceased was supposed to come to Archana, a claim which was being disputed by the deceased’s in-laws.

It is learnt that in a bid to sort out the dispute, Archana along with her husband had gone to the house of her aunts, brother-in-law. The discussions turned aggressive and Brahma, a nephew of Urmil, pulled out a gun and shot at Bhargav. As per the police an attempt was made to shoot Bhargav in his stomach however a quick defence reflex on the part of Bhargav made him push away Brahma. The bullet however hit Bhargav in his thigh.
