Cong links Vajpayee,Advani with Radia

‘NDA regime allotted land to Radia’s trust,Advani attended stone-laying function’.

Turning the tables on the opposition in the 2G spectrum scam, the ruling Congress on Friday sought to drag in former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and top BJP leader L K Advani and sought to link them with corporate lobbyist Niira Radia,a charge that the BJP rejected vociferously.

The Congress alleged that Radia had “close links “with the then Prime Minister’s Office during the NDA rule through close relations of the then PM”. Congress spokesman Abhishek Manu Singhvi questioned the BJP’s “silence” about the alleged links between Radia and BJP leader Anant Kumar and alleged that the NDA government allotted land to Radia’s trust and Advani attended the stone-laying function.

“Why was Radia’s trust allotted land in Vasant Kunj in 2002 — at whose instance and under what qualifications? Was Advani impressed with her networking skills that he went to lay the foundation stone of her trust? Did Advani, who time and again speaks so eloquently about Swiss banks,do anything at all about these Zurich bank accounts?” Singhvi asked. “Was it only the then civil aviation minister’s and Radia’s bank accounts or also of several BJP leaders? When will,at least,Anant Kumar be removed as general secretary? Did Cabinet papers leaked during the BJP regime contain only national security issue or also budgetary details?”

The BJP hit back at the Congress with its senior leader Arun Jaitley rubbishing the charges as “false allegations” . At a hurriedly convened media briefing,he asserted that the “NDA government never alloted any land to her (Radia) and Advani never attended any function of any trust controlled by that lady”.

“The only function that he (Advani) attended in Vasant Kunj in 2002 was that of a religious organisation of Pejawar Swami,a well-known Hindu saint. And the swami himself has issued a statement that the land was allotted by the United Front government,” Jaitley said.

While the Congress asked the BJP to remove general secretary Anant Kumar from the party post following the allegations about his links with Radia,

Jaitley said Kumar had rejected all the allegations.

Terming the BJP an “immoral organisation”,which believes in “illegal activities and corruption”,Singhvi alleged that “bank accounts were opened in Switzerland to stash away ill-gotten wealth… Cabinet papers were leaked”.

“It is said that Cabinet papers were leaked. Which Cabinet papers and relating to what issue? — we are all oblivious of this,” Jaitley said. As regarding allegations of opening of bank accounts in Zurich,he said,“Which account, what details… we don’t have any details.”
