Senior Congress leader Arjun Singh today said his party would not share platform with former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Kalyan Singh who has decided to align with Samajwadi Party in the forthcoming elections.
Singh said his views were in conformity with that of his party.
Our party has already taken a decision that it would not share platform with Kalyan Singh. I agree with my party’s stand, he said told reporters when asked about whether Congress should have pre-poll alliance with SP.
Asked about SP leader Amar Singh’s allegation that he had met Kalyan just before demolition of Babri Masjid but did not ask him to refrain from the razing, the Congress leader said it was a courtesy call.
I went but I did not go to convince him. I reached Lucknow. Prime Minister (P V Narasimha Rao) told me to meet him. I met him and came back. There was no other reason. I did not carry any message, he said.
Amar Singh had recently alleged that Arjun Singh had gone to Lucknow in June,1992 as a Union minister to lead an agitation on Ayodhya. But he postponed his agitation and appreciated the Kalyan Singh government.
