The ruling BJP has drawn flak for failing to include the names of Congress MLAs in the official invitation for the launch of the BRTS service on Wednesday. Opposition Congress leader Surendra Baxi lambasted the “childish attempt of the BJP to ignore the Congress in this manner”.
In a strongly worded statement, Baxi said that it was the tradition of the Congress to support every development move of the ruling party, adding that it was “regrettable” that the BJP was ignoring the Opposition .
“The BRTS propaganda is being done in a way to give an impression that the BJP is doing it entirely on its own,” Baxi said, alleging that due to this, the administration has become completely saffronised.
Contrary to this, the Congress has been continuing with development by keeping all concerned together, he said.
He cited examples like experting support for the continuation of former mayor Nandlal Wadhwa on the board of the Sabarmati River Front Development Corporation, or, how it always strived to secure the mega city status for the city recently.
Meanwhile, responding to GPCC’s allegation of Chief Minister Narendra Modi cornering credit for BRTS project, city mayor Kanaji Thakor said the AMC was ever thankful to the Centre for its contribution under JNNURM, but it was just 20 to 25 per cent of the money spent on the project. The rest was spent by the Gujarat government and the AMC, he said. “The Centre does not give grant for any cost escalation in the original cost of the project,” he added.
