Cong: Sonia will decide on Rahul elevation

While maintaining that Rahul Gandhi’s role in the Congress will “go on increasing”,the party on Tuesday termed reports about his elevation in near future as working president or president as “speculation” and said that it will be decided by party president Sonia Gandhi.

“There is no suspense about it. He has a role,which is increasing constantly. In natural course,his role will go on increasing. This is what Congressmen want and this is what in their opinion is natural. There is no doubt about it that Congressmen want his role to increase,” AICC media department chairman Janardhan Dwivedi told reporters in response to queries here. “Congress president Sonia Gandhi is here to lead the party and she will decide what to do and when,” he said.

He refused to answer queries regarding the timeline. “You just cannot speculate on timeline. You should consider all other speculation as mere speculation for the time being,” said Dwivedi.

His remarks came in the backdrop of reports about Rahul likely to be elevated as working president of the party in the next few weeks. Congress sources said that while his elevation is only a matter of timing,no decision has been taken about it yet.
