Cong tensions on view as Jogi snipes at Digvijaya during condolence meet

Singh retorted that Chhattisgarh has always respected outsiders

Two former Congress chief ministers targeted each other in an unsavoury spectacle that marred a condolence meeting Thursday evening for party leaders killed in last month’s Maoist attack.

“Outsiders coming from Fatehgarh,Pratapgarh or other garh can’t help Chhattisgarh Congress. Only leaders belonging to the state can help the party,” former Chhattisgarh CM Ajit Jogi said in a clear reference to former Madhya Pradesh CM Digvijaya Singh.

Singh, who belongs to Raghogarh and is on a personal visit to meet the bereaved families, retorted that Chhattisgarh has always respected outsiders.

Jogi had an uncomfortable relationship with the deceased PCC chief Nand Kumar Patel, and has had public tussles with B K Hariprasad, the AICC’s Chhattisgarh in-charge. Acting PCC president Charan Das Mahant and programme coordinator Bhupesh Baghel are staunch opponents of his attempts to push his son in state politics.
