Cong to come out with ‘chargesheet’ against Nitish

Congress plans to come out with a 'chargesheet' against Nitish Kumar government in poll bound Bihar.

Congress plans to come out with a “chargesheet” against Nitish Kumar government in poll bound Bihar “to expose its hollow claims” of development and will highlight the achievements of the Centre to woo electorate in the Assembly elections there.

“We will highlight failures of the state government on the development front. The central government’s schemes are not being properly implemented in the state,” AICC general secretary Mukul Wasnik, who is the party in-charge for Bihar, said in an interview.

Congress workers will come out with “a chargesheet against the state government’s non performance in each district and expose the hollowness of the state government’s claims of development,” Wasnik said.

Wasnik, who also holds the portfolio of Minister for Social Justice and Development, accused Nitish government of not paying attention to the implementation of social welfare schemes like old age pension, widow pension,Indira Awas Yojana and of non-utilisation of the central funds.

“All claims of state government about development are false and there is rampant corruption there,” he alleged.

Wasnik said the party could come out with a booklet highlighting the non-performance of the Bihar Government, which will “expose the non-implementation of the central government schemes for development of SCs,STs,OBCs and minorities in Bihar”.

Congress has already decided to carry out a similar exercise in Uttar Pradesh, where the party is making a serious bid to return to power with AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi personally looking after the poll strategy and election preparations.

Bihar, another key state in the Hindi belt,is also on the radar of Gandhi. Breaking off from Lalu Prasad’s RJD,the Congress has decided to go alone in the state on the lines of UP. The party had witnessed a decline in both the states over the last two decades.

Asked whether youths would be given priority during ticket distribution in Bihar,Wasnik said,”Congress’ approach has always been to give representation to youths, minorities and deprived sections.”

Wasnik said that the partymen are united in the state and he sees “tremendous excitement” among them. The Congress had yesterday dissolved the earlier PCC executive and the team of office bearers, barring the newly elected state unit chief and treasurer.

Mehboob Ali Kaiser replaced PCC chief Anil Sharma and Wasnik came in place of Jagdish Tytler as AICC in-charge for the state last month in a sudden reshuffle by the Congress high command following the internecine war between supporters and Sharma and Tytler there.

Asked what would be the Congress’ strategy to get votes in the highly caste polarised politics of the state,Wasnik said,”Our effort will be cut across caste and community lines. We will put forth the development initiatives taken by the Congress led government at the Centre and will explain our vision for the state in our manifesto.”

He said that a number of Union Ministers will be visiting the state for election campaigning.

Wasnik denied any possibility of Congress aligning with or having any seat sharing understanding with Ram Vilas Paswan led LJP.

“We will fight alone. There will be no understanding,” he said.
