With the farm loan waiver scheme failing to translate into votes for the Congress in the recent Karnataka Assembly elections, the party has now decided to press the entire organisational machinery into publicising the scheme among the farmers.

Congress president Sonia Gandhi has asked all AICC general secretaries and in-charges of states to immediately convene a meeting of office-bearers of Pradesh and District Congress Committees and frontal organisations, MPs and MLAs and “ highlight” the benefits of the scheme. “It is important to make sure that the scheme is properly implemented and its benefits reach the farmers,” said an official note issued by the party.

A separate pamphlet highlighting the salient points of the scheme would be circulated in the meetings of party office-bearers in various states, it said.
