The Congress has adopted a ‘wait and watch’ approach on the issue of Jagdish Tytler's candidature.

Pressure mounted on the Congress party for a rethink on the candidatures of Jagdish Tytler and Sajjan Kumar, whose names figured in connection with 1984 anti-Sikh riots, with sections within the party said to be against their nomination.

Congress party Sonia Gandhi, who has been away for electioneering, is expected to discuss the issue with senior party leaders on her return in the wake of the shoe-throwing incident at the Union Home Minister P Chidamabarm's press conference in the AICC headquarters yesterday which has brought renewed focus on the issue.

Officially, the party said "let's wait and see" to questions whether the party would do a rethink on their candidatures.

Party Spokesperson Jayanti Natrajan said she could not add to what has already been said by other spokesmen like Janardhan Dwivedi and Ashwini Kumar that an appropriate decision would be taken at the appropriate time.

Asked whether morality or winnability was important, she said "both are important." However, the sections within the party in Delhi and Punjab have voiced their reservations to the party high command about the advisability of fielding the two leaders in the Lok Sabha elections in view of the fact that there is resentment among the Sikh community over their alleged role in the riots.

Chidambaram felt that it was for the party to decide whether to give ticket or not to someone but a person cannot be pronounced either guilty or innocent without due process of law.

Tytler, who has been given a clean chit by the CBI, sought to question the controversy surrounding his nomination saying "why should there be reconsideration just because CBI has given me a clean chit."

    ... contd.

blaming tytler is bullshit and political gimmickBy: Narinder | 09-Apr-2009 Reply | Forward when the law of the country could not find persons guilty in 25 years and when the governments were run by all sections of political parties. When in power they all say let the law takes its own course. same law could not find people responsible for demolition of structure at ayodhya for at least same period. Un less we make the law different for Politicians because they have a life span of 5 years and their cases should be decided in this life span nothing substials can be gained. We have seen it in bofors, babri, 84 riots, 2002 riots, Killings in punjab, Assam and unaccountable occasions. let us not allow such issues to be burried and then capitalised at the time of elections. All utterances from political dias is nothing but bullshit.
History will repeatBy: Arjun Singh | 09-Apr-2009 Reply | Forward This is a blessing in disguise for Tytler, Sajjan. They will become governor after election. jai ho Tytler, Sajjan.
Tytler, Sajjan, BhagatBy: Rajan | 09-Apr-2009 Reply | Forward Tytler, Sajjan, Bhagat and many more are the persons Congress party is shielding.Congress after Indira is a shameless party. Everybody knows these politicians are selfish people so as Comgress, BJP, Samajwadi, Bahujan etcAll these issues crop up before Elections only.People should understand this. These culprits will not be punished because Congress is shielding them.BJP wanted the issue alive so they also were not in a mood to punish these when they were in power.
Tytler and Sajjan Congress family.By: Rajinder Katoch | 09-Apr-2009 Reply | Forward Think, why congress is so desperate to bring in Tytler and Sajjan Kumar. Because by killing innocent sikhs they have done a great service to the Nehru family. Sonia by making Manmohan singh the regent(care taker) thought sikhs will pardon these two has not happened. We in Delhi know for sure that Jagdish, Sajjan and H.K.L. Bhagat were the three prominent names who were responsible for sikhs massacre and every sikh knows this. Now, if Sonia thinks that by making sikh a PM, Congress vices will turn into virtues, I am sorry that is not going to happen. These two should be chased and hanged alongwith Afzal and Kasab.
