The state Congress has demanded a probe into the alleged tampering of electronic voting machines(EVMs) at the strong room of the Machau taluka of Bhuj district.
The sealed EVMs were taken to the strongroom after Bachau municipality elections on Sunday. Some Congress workers claimed they had seen the poll staff breaking the seal of at least 14 EVMs and reported the matter to the returning officer and Bhuj district collector.
Later, state party president Arjun Modhwadia complained to the State Election Commission (SEC), requesting that counting of Bachau elections not be held and the incident be probed.
SEC's acting chief P S Shah, when contacted, said the counting for Bachau municipal polls had been withheld and district collector and returning officers asked to probe the matter and report it to the Commission.
Meanwhile, Modhwadia claimed at a press conference that Congress won 19 out of 57 municipalities for which polls were held on Sunday. Of the 19, he said, party had wrested several from BJP.
